Copper to chestnut brown coloured with a small white head, caramel and biscuity malt aroma. Taste is a very typical Batemans bitter, it has a strong malt taste up front, sharp hop bitterness. Its still however, when i say 'typical Batemans', so similar to several of their other beers, they are not bad beers, pleasantly average though - is that damning praise?

Sounds like a good beer. Love a bit of Batemans Victory Ale. This beer does not have the best of names though! I wouldn't want to be picking one of these up on a friday night ;)
ReplyDeleteAgree with ghost drinker about Victory Ale, a really nice ESB. Dark Lord is also worth a try, a bit like Hobgoblin but nicer I'd say. It's a dark ruby beer thats pretty rich but very drinkable. (not to be confused with 3 floyds dark lord!)
ReplyDeleteworth a try
I've been passing on buying this for the last few weeks as it just doesn't sound anything that interesting - I've baron rated most of the Batemans bottles and my favourites are XXXB, Dark Lord & Victory Ale.
ReplyDeleteThis just didn't seem worth picking up instead of one of the above.
Nice photo again BTW.
I certainly agree with all the above, those 3 'XXXB, Dark Lord & Victory Ale' are their best efforts, the rest seem so similar, as i said Hooker did.
ReplyDeleteSaying that i did put three away!
I bought it because its new to me but i wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again.
I think batemans should start getting even darker, although their dark lord is great i think they could make a nice fruity porter.
