Aldi 'Das Helle' and 'Das Schwarze'

New into Aldi this week is two german beers 'Das Helle' and 'Das Schwarze' seemingly produced by Schwaben Bräu who according to the wikipedia entry
'is a brewery owned by Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH und Co. KG and located in Stuttgart, Germany. The company owns the largest brewery in the German state of Baden-Württemberg'
The bottles are 500mls each and both £1.79.
The Helle is a 5% abv  'traditional South German Beer - Black Forest Helles', whilst the 4.9% abv Das Schwarze is described as a 'Black Forest Dark beer'.
Anyone tried these before?

I'm hoping they will be pretty good as they seem to have replaced the Arcobrau Weissbier Hell which was a staple purchase of mine over the last six months.

  1. I picked both of these up last week but haven't opened them yet but looking forward to trying them.

My local Aldi still has a couple of cases of the Weissbier left but I prefer the Franziskaner Weissbier which is currently on offer in Tesco for £1.50.

  2. £1.79 isn't really cheap, though, when I can currently get several varieties of genuine imported German beer for £1.50 in Tesco. I would have expected something more like £1.39 in ALDI. Any sign of Oktoberfestbier in ALDI, which they made a big thing of about three years ago?

  3. Completely agree with both of you about the price, and compared to other options, and whilst Lidl have advertised an Oktoberfest which is offering the Franziskaner at i think the same price as tesco, i have not seen anything from aldi.

  4. I also picked up a couple of the Schwarzbier. I was half waiting for your review before cracking into them, but I might try one tonight.

  8. 500ml for £1.79 is really cheap considering this is QUALITY German Beer.
This would be over £2.00 if it were sold elsewhere!!!!

  10. The Das Helle is excellecent
As I mostly drink English Real Ale (Prefer blonde-hoppy styles)
The Das Helle is a lovely beer. A proper german lager, not the fizzy larger-lout type.
Been stocking up a bit because I thik once Aldi sell out its gone, like last year.
Roll on Acrobrau Winter Beer :)
